Sergia (Sue) Flores, Life Coach
My name is Sergia, but everyone calls me Sue.
I was introduced to coaching on September 11, 2010, when my old college friends and I decided to redefine the meaning of the day by celebrating a reunion. We hadn't seen each other in almost 25 years. It was nothing short of glorious to see them, hug them, and kiss them again.
As we dove back into each other's lives I made note of something that you don't often hear in extended conversations: My friends were happy. They weren't expressing this happiness in that unrealistic, "everything has gone perfectly" kind of way. In fact, if you examined the details they had, like me, faced and overcome unspeakable hardships. We shared those, as well as our accomplishments and our enormous sense of gratitude for having come this far. But there was more with them. They had a language among them that I knew I didn't speak yet. It was the language of purpose. They were fully engaged in their lives. I was...ok. I had a steady job, a home, health, a peaceful life, a sense of accomplishment when I reflected on my life's journey. But in this room, with these smart, devoted, passionate people, I couldn't fake what I didn't feel.
Toward the end of the evening, it was the life coach among us, James, who approached me and said, "You should come to one of my workshops." I wasn't sure what coaching meant or what his workshops entailed, but in one of those moments that must be recognized as a gift, he added that the name of the workshop was "Finding Your Path." So of course, I had to do it. James Cassese is a therapist, life coach and horseman. From the golden threads that are his heart and soul, he created EQUINE ENERGETIX. I am pursuing a coaching career as a direct result of that and several more workshops that I've attended. In no small way, those coaching workshops have helped me change the course of my life, and my sense of purpose is restored.
My foundations as a listener and catalyst for change began with a B.A. in psychology and M.A. in liberal studies from NYU. I'm currently on the coaching certification track as a student at MENTOR COACH, LLC. In addition to coaching and training, I make a living as a writer for a financial firm. Writing is also a personal passion, and I have authored and published a non-fiction book of short stories named A-TRAIN LULLABY.
"Sergia is an extremely personable dynamo...Vibrant, mindfully aware of the needs of others, and a sense of humor that ignites people to bring out the best in themselves, Sergia is an exceptional woman. If you need a great coach, get Sergia on your team."
